Thomas Wycherley Swindells was One of 8 children (one of which died in infancy) born to Jacob Marshall Swindells a Signalman with Midland Railway company and Annie Swindells, of 11, Salisbury Avenue, Armley, Leeds.
Thomas volunteered underage on the 6th of September 1914 and served with number 10 platoon of C company in Colsterdale Egypt and France.
The Pals of C Company were the first over the top on the 1st of July 1916, the opening day of the battle of the Somme, Thomas like so many was killed within the first few minutes, his body was never recovered, so he has no known grave, but is commemorated on the THEIPVAL MEMORIAL,FRANCE.
His older brother Frederick Marshall Swindells served with the Royal Artillery and survived the War.
