Private Frank Clapham

Frank CLapham was born in Bradford in 1897 to Fred and Margaret (Nee Tunnicliffe) Clapham. His uncle owned two Hat shops one on Low Town in Pudsey and one on Ive Gate in Leeds and Frank started working in one of these shops at the age of 14.
He enlisted in the Leeds Pals at the age of 17 and became a Bomber in 15 Section 12 Platoon C Company and trained at Colsterdale before being posted to Egypt and finally France. He was eventually discharged due to being gassed in the battle of the Somme in 1916. Upon entering civilian life in Britain he got a job working for a Leeds Hospital the department ordering limbs for the severely wounded. He then began working for the Ministry of Labour and moved to Lincoln where he met his wife and subsequently were married in April 1938 they had two children.
He died on the 3rd of June 1957.
