PRIVATE Charles Edward Standish. 15/842.
Born Leeds 1889.

When the war started Charles Edward Standish was working as a technical Draughtsman with the Ferodo brakes company at Cleckheaton,Bradford, he enlisted on the 5th of September 1914 and served as a machine gunner with the Pals at Colsterdale Egypt and France.
Shortly after the Pals had arrived in France in March 1916 he and several others were transferred to the 9th Battalion Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, He served with that battalion throughout the war and shortly before the end of hostilities served in Mesopotamia. When the war ended he also served on the North West Frontier in India with the 9th battalion and later with the Royal Ordinance Corps.
After his military service ended in 1922 he returned to his work with Ferodo Brakes and stayed with them until his retirement.
He was also a keen amateur cartoonist and sketcher using the sudename “Hidnash“, many of his cartoons were published in the Yorkshire Post, John Bull and Punch magazines etc.
